Abstract

Aspergillus niger was used for cellulase enzyme production through solid state fermentation. Pineapple leaves was used as a substrate. Magnesium sulphate, potassium dihydrogen phosphate, sodium metabisulfite and urea were used as mineral supplements to enhance growth of A. niger. The SSF process was conducted at 30°C with 70% initial moisture content for 6 days. Celiulase activity produced from the A. niger with different mineral supplements at different concentration on the pineapple leaves was determined. The results obtained showed that MgSO4, KHIPO4 and Na2 S105 have the highest enzyme activity at 1%, 0.5% and 1% with the reading 0.035 U/ml, 0.02 U/ml and 0.02 U/ml. The highest enzyme activity in urea was obtained at 1.5% with 0.054 U/ml.
