Abstract

The purpose of this study is to examine the relationship between education-job mismatch and job satisfaction among employees in a private oil and gas company. The independent variables of this study is vertical mismatch that consists of overeducated and undereducated and horizontal mismatch that consists of same field of study and different field of study while the dependent variable is job satisfaction. Hundred (100) respondents from Petronas Carigali Sdn Bhd Bintulu were involved in the survey conducted. Before the actual study being conducted, there were 40 respondents in the pilot study carried out at Asean Bintulu Fertilizer Sdn Bhd, Bintulu. The respondents were identified through simple random sampling. The collected data was analysed using Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) version 25. Descriptive statistics and inferential statistics were generated. Inferential statistics involved were Pearson's Correlation Coefficient, Chi-Square of Independence and Analysis of Variants (ANOVA). The findings indicated that there were significant and positive relationship between vertical mismatch and job satisfaction, significant and positive association between horizontal mismatch and job satisfaction and there was a significant difference between both vertical and horizontal mismatch and job satisfaction. Discussions of the research findings and recommendations for organizations and future research were presented to benefit all related parties
