Abstract

This study was conducted to study the social environment and deviant behavior. The social environment is divided into three; namely, how parents educate their children, peer and mass media influence. Whereas deviant behaviors focus only on five: smoking, glue sniffmg, illegal motor racing, loitering and truancy. To achieve the objectives of the study, qualitative method is employed the technique of data collection involves face to face interview with 20 respondents consisting 18 boys and two girls. This study is conducted in Kampung Ketapang Hilir, Pekan. The study shows the influence of peers is a major contributor to the occurrence of deviant behavior among adolescent. However, the undeniable influence of the mass media and how discipline these adolescent are by parents also influence deviant behaviors. The finding also show social environment does influence deviant behavior among teenagers.
