Abstract

Kapur Bukit (Dryoba/anops beccarii Dyer) from the Dipterocarpaceae family was chosen for this study due to it economic llJld ecological importllllce. Three experiments were conducted under fog llJld non-fog conditions in order to examine the factors (age of cutting, rooting medium llJld plllJlt growth regulator) that affecting the rooting of D. beccarii stem cuttings. The cuttings taken from N3 (second node below Nl) showed the highest rooting percentage under both conditions (87.5% under non-fog llJld 52.5% under fog condition) compared to NI (portion of stem from the terminal of the shoot which turning from green to brown) llJld N2 (first node below NI). Although the results from the experiments on the rooting medium llJld plllJlt growth regulator were unsatisfactory, however from the observation it showed that the cuttings plllJlted in the mixture of Slllld llJld peat by volume 1:1 achieved a higher rooting percentage under both conditions (10% under non-fog llJld 50% under fog condition) compared to those plllJlted in the Slllld llJld peat medium. MellJlwhile, the untreated cuttings appeared to root better thllJl the cuttings treated with I mglL llJld 2 mgIL Indole-3butric acid (lBA) with 66.7% of the cuttings rooted under the non-fog condition while under the fog condition, the cuttings treated with 1 mgIL IBA achieved the highest rooting percentage (10%). In the experiments to examine the age of cutting, the cuttings propagated under non-fog condition showed a higher rooting potential thllJl those propagated under the fog condition.
