Abstract

Upriver communities (Orang Ulu) has more than 10 races living along at Baram River which is one of the longest rivers in Sarawak. The study focused to the Kiput communities belonging to the Upriver groups. The Kiput people lived in Kuala Tutoh, Baram and one of the minority race. There are also some of Kiput's living in some unknown areas and few ofKiput's lived at Brunei Darulssalam country. Like the other Upriver groups, the Kiput have a distinctive uniqueness of it's culture. Custome also in cultural context which every Upriver group races in Sarawak is different from each other. This research aim to identify the characteristics of traditional women's custome in Kiput at Kuala Tutoh, Baram. Each customes has its own distinctive features. What are the features in this traditional custome? This paper also examines how the traditional custome works to the Kiput race and to maintaining the traditional Kiput women's custome. The rationale for this study is to introduce the culture ofthe Kiput race which endangered group in Malaysia.
