Abstract

This research is conducted to analyze the types of materials used to produce works to uphold the engraving motifs on traditional shields or terabai by today's society, especially the Iban community. The Iban community has the belief that each of these engravings has various meaning and ritual functions in the everyday life of the Iban community. These terabai carved motives are also their appreciation for the environment and appreciate and nurture their treasures. With this, the researchers will ensure that this traditional terabai will continue to be known to highlight the uniqueness of the Iban culture and arts. Therefore, the researcher has presented three objectives to carry out this study more strategically. The analyst performs an analysis of various types of materials to identify appropriate methods for application in the work. In addition, researchers also used a qualitative methodology to carry out this study. The method used by the researcher in this study is in the form of material experimentation and sketches on various techniques used. The results of experimentation and data collection methods will be applied to mixed media work. Therefore, the types of motives can be used as a form of ornamentation in the final work.
