Abstract

Rasboras are members of a group of small minnow-type of freshwater fish that belongs to Cyprinidae family. Currently, Rasbora establishes the most species-rich genus in the cyprinid subfamily Danioninae with 77 species. The characterization and chromosomal configuration of Rasbora species still remains limited due to cryptic species diversity. Hence, in order to clarify unresolved issues of Rasbora characterization and chromosomal configuration, gills from Rasbora sarawakensis were isolated and trypsinized before tissue were harvested and cultured. Through this, cell suspensions were observed and times of culture were optimized. Cell monolayer were observed in T25 flask and harvested for karyotyping purpose. Although Gbanding was performed, nevertheless due to limited time frame, specific karyotype was not deduced. Although cytogenetics analysis was performed partially, the impact of this study should not be undermined since it may provide critical evidence in the unsettled issue of Rasbora chromosomal configuration.
