Abstract

Sarawak River is an important river in Sarawak as it serves many purposes to the local people, such as for transportations, tourisms and seafood sources. However, these activities could possible contribute pollutants (e.g. metals) into the river waters which might give negative impacts to the river ecosystem. Therefore, the objective ofthis study is to determine concentrations ofAluminium (AI), Manganese (Mn), Zinc (Zn), Cadmium (Cd), Cobalt (Co), Copper (Cu), Nickel (Ni), Chromium (Cr), Lead (Pb), Mercury (Hg) and selected water parameter were investigated. The result showed the concentration of metals in river for first sampling was followed the sequences of Al (0.1058 mgIL -0.2617 mgIL» Zn(0.0796 mgIL -0.1410 mgIL »Mn (0.0150 mgIL) >Hg(0.008 IlgIL -0.6069 IlgIL) and for the second sampling the concentration of metal in river was followed the sequences of AI (0.0752 mgIL -0.2540 mgIL» Zn(0.0481 mgIL -0.2432 mgIL»Mn (0.0732 mgIL -0.1086 mgIL) >Cr (0.0155 mgIL -0.0164 mg/L) >Pb (0.0037 mgIL -0.0047 mgIL) >Hg (0.0092 IlgIL -0.5848 IlgIL). The result of selected water parameter for first sampling and second was classified under National Water Quality Standard for Malaysia (NWQS) and most of station was classified as turbidity under class IIA, pH (class I), salinity (class IIA) and dissolved oxygen (class IIA).
