Abstract

A study on benthic diatom assemblages along a brackish river of Sungai Kuap was carried out. The benthic diatom communities from four stations along Sg. Kuap were studied and analyzed. A total of 19 genera of benthic diatoms were recorded. The diatom species compositions varied for different stations. The species ofNitzschia was dominant in Station 1, Station 3 and Station 4. In Station 2, the Navicula was commonly found. The water quality variables were taken in-situ such as temperature (29.39°C-30.89°C), pH (6.41-7.21), dissolved oxygen (2.32 mg/I-5.87 mg/l), turbidity (11.5 NTU-27.4 NTU) and total dissolved solid (19.2 gll-24.5 gil). The correlation between diatom genera and water quality variables displayed a close correlation.
