Abstract

This study was done to compile a base line data on the physico-chemical parameters in sediment of razor clam producing area at Bako. Data were collected during harvesting period of razor clam in the months of September and December 2006. The results of the study showed that pH was neutral, salinity range from 15.67 to 25 PSU, total dissolved solids range from 8.61 to 22.00 mg/L, conductivity range from 17.33 to 38.97 mS/cm, temperature range from 26.43 to 36.03 °C, and NaCl range from 29.60 to 89.50 %. Ammonia range from 0.71 to 1.89 mg/L, nitrate range from 0.12 to 1.33 mg/L, nitrite range from 0.00 to 0.02 mg/L, orthophosphate range from 0.01 to 0.18 mg/L, silicate range from 0.59 to 1.67 mg/L and COD range from 71.00 to 131.78 mg/L. The total organic matter range from 0.0097 to 0.0801 g. It was found that the sediment of razor clam producing area in Bako was dominated by sand. From this study, all in situ and ex situ physico-chemical parameters differed between September and December 2006
