Abstract

Co(Il), Ni(II), Cu(II) and Zn(II) metal complexes of two new Schiff base ligands derived from condensation reaction of benzhydrazide with acetil or benzil have been synthesized and characterized by elemental analyses, molar conductance, UV-Visible and IR spectral studies. It was observed that both Schiff base ligands act as a dinegative tetradentate (N202) ligands toward the central metal ion. The tetradentate ligands bind to the metal ion via the azomethine nitrogen and the amide oxygen atoms. The metal complexes appear to be four coordinated. The metal complexes were all non-electrolytes.
