Abstract

Vibration monitoring is one of the most common and widely used fault monitoring methods in industries to estimate components fault occurrence in machineries. Vibration test rigs which were used to conduct various studies on vibration monitoring are commonly single functioned. They are focused on conducting only specific study aspect. This research aims to develop a modular test rig that is able to have various configurations aside from having the advantages of modular design architecture. The limited numbers of available studies on simultaneous multiple fault occurrences is recognized. Single and combination components fault were tested in this study however is limited to imbalance and gear fault. The parameters varied in terms of location of signal collection (bearing housing and gearbox stand) and operation speed of machine (20, 30, 40 & 50 Hz). The fabricated test rig used in this study was tested for its operational deflection shape (ODS) to obtain the behavior at operating speed used as test parameter. The vibration signals collected in acceleration unit are evaluated using traditional vibration analysis methods; root mean square (RMS) for overall vibration and Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) to obtain their frequency spectrums. The built modular test rig gave out 20 N resultant force and insignificant deformation with 2.1 N.m applied torque. Frequency spectrums of signals collected from gearbox stand during faulty conditions at 20, 30, 40 and 50 Hz operating speed show significant amplitude at 100 Hz frequency of above 20 m/s2. During imbalance fault, frequency spectrums displayed 1X frequency according to operating speeds and meshing frequency during gear fault.
