Abstract

Over the years, erosion issue has affected the riverbank areas. Riverbank erosion has both advantages and disadvantages. Riverbank erosion benefit to waterway ecology as bank changes may create a variety of habitats for flora and fauna which contribute to ecological diversity. However, bank erosion may also be detrimental for many streams. It may cause land loss, road collapse and become a resource of maintenance problem. Sungai Bedengan is located at Mukah, Sarawak facing the effect from the riverbank hazard. The erosion cause the losses of fertile agricultural lands and building adjacent to the river and causes a lot of material damages. Therefore, it is vital demand to find out the root source that causes the erosion and to propose the most suitable protection method to control this hazard. A research was carried to study the erosion on the riverbank of the Sungai Bedengan and to propose the most suitable control measure to minimize the bank erosion.
