Abstract

Biodegradable aerogel has becoming more demanded compare to the silica aerogels which are very useful and important in the pharmaceutical field for the drug delivery system. Recent finding, polysaccharides (cellulose) are one of the biodegradable materials that potentially can be used as the matrices in aerogel synthesis. The objective of this study is to synthesis the polysaccharide-based aerogels from different starches of various source which with different amylose-amylopectin composition. The aerogels from tapioca, sago starch, com starch and glutinous rice starch was successfully synthesized, the morphology of the aerogels show porous structures which suitable to be used in drug loading and unloading.
