Abstract

Coconut fiber or coir is natural fiber extracted from the husk of coconut. Coconut fiber or coir has potential to create a soundproofing product in the greener way. In this experiment, the mixture of Urea Formaldehyde and natural fiber (Coconut fiber) were done. There are two samples are made; Specimen A and Specimen B made of coconut fiber reinforced with Urea Formaldehyde (UF) with treated and non- treated coconut fiber. The fabrication of the fiber board was done using a hot press machine at 120 degree Celsius. Specimen A are non- treated fiber; 85 % fiber and 15% Urea Formaldehyde. Specimen B are treated fiber 85% and 15% Urea Formaldehyde. Coconut fiber is reinforced with Urea Formaldehyde to create a soundproofing product (fiberboard). The treated fiber are goes through the alkaline treatment, where the fibers are soaked with the distilled water and Sodium Hydroxide for three hours. The Fiberboard is tested by a using sound level meter inside the anechoic chamber to measure the value of the sound. The testing is conducted inside the anechoic chamber to avoid the sound from the outside which can affect the reading value from the sound level meter.
