Abstract

Interpretation is one of the important components of ecotourism. It involves providing information to the visitors and it has been used by natural areas management as a tool of communication to help generalize the complicated information to be understood by the public. The objectives of this study are to identify different types of environmental interpretation available in KL Forest Eco Park, to determine visitors‟ usage of environmental interpretation available in the park and their level of satisfaction with the services provided and to compare level of effectiveness of environmental interpretation available with selected socio demographic groups. Survey was conducted among the visitors of the KL Forest Eco Park using pre designed questionnaire as an instrument. There are four types of environmental interpretation available in the park; park staff, interpretive panel and signage board, brochure and visitor information center with interpretive panel with heavy usage compare to the other interpretive service. Level of satisfaction of the interpretive services is relatively good. As for the effectiveness, it is found that the environmental interpretation services available at KL Forest Eco Park are effective in terms of increasing satisfaction of visits; the visitors are very satisfied with their visits and will recommend to others, increase the appreciation and awareness on natural environment and increase in knowledge. However, there is no significant effect in terms of possibilities of changing in behaviour of the visitors after their visits to the park and after the usage of environmental interpretation available.
