Abstract

The study entitled "Elements of Poetic in the selected films by Godfrey Reggio" is a research paper to determine the definition of the poetic documentary, to identify the characteristics of poetic documentary in the selected films made by Godfrey Reggio, and how this mode can be applied to in a short documentary. Researcher had used the selected films namely Koyaanisqatsi, Powaqqatsi, and Naqoyqatsi by Godfrey Reggio as a guide to identify the characteristics of poetic documentary. In the study, the the selected films have a clear elements of poetic documentary. These elements are movement of the camera used is very minimal and mostly wide shot. In term of editing techniques, the selected poetic documentaries used fast forward and slow-motion techniques in editing. Meanwhile, the music used are often experimental pieces or film scores composed by Philip Glass.
