Abstract

This thesis entitled “Design and development of interferometer for hard disk surface measurement” describes the design and set-up of a Michelson interferometer for hard disk surface measurement. This includes the optical set-up, imaging system and software design. The phase shifting method used in this project is Fourier transform method. A systematic and scientific experiment has been planned and conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of the surface measurement equipment. The result was analyzed objectively with a statistical method. The analysis has clearly demonstrated the capability of the equipment in respect of accuracy, repeatability and stability.
