Abstract

Three new organotin(lV) complexes with ligand namely 2-acetylpyridine isonicotinoyl hydrazine (1) of general formula ([R2SnCh(Cl30N4H14)], R= Me, Bu and Ph) have been synthesized byrefluxing with methanol with 1: 1 molar ratio. Fourier Transform infrared (FTIR), ultraviolet visible (UV -vis), 1H nuclear magnetic resonances and l3C nuclear magnetic resonances were used to analyse the ligand (1) and organotin(lV) complexes (2-4) spectral studies. From the spectral data analyses, the ligand has acted as neutral bidentate to the dimethyl tin(IV) complex while it acted as neutral tridentate to the dibutyltin(lV) (3) and diphenyltin (IV) (4) complexes. Escherichia coli, Bacillus cereus and Staphylococcus aeureus were used in evaluating the antibacterial properties of compound. From the observation obtained, dimethytin(lV) (2) complex has shown the most active activity compared to free ligand (l) and other organotin(IV) (3-4) complexes. This are due to the presence of hydroxyl group in dimethyltin (IV) (2) complex.
