Abstract

Initiation of enteral feeding in small for gestational age (SGA) premature infants is a challenge as the SGA infant with compromised blood supply to the gut has traditionally been associated with an increased risk of feeding intolerance and necrotising enterocolitis. This study compared the incidence of feeding intolerance, necrotising enterocolitis and duration to achieve full enteral feeding in infants randomised to either early or delayed enteral feeding.
