Abstract

This research investigates the practice andfilture ofhybrid art in the local art scene. In the practice aspect, the perception ofhybrid art practice was examined. The fillure ofhybrid art isstlldiedfrom the angles ofapplication, ease ofimplementation and benefit. Thefour aspects of art examined were media application, aesthetic value and commercial value, techniques and perceptions. The data on the practice andfillure ofhybrid art were obtained from interviews and questionnaires distributed to art students, artists, academicians and curators. All data were analysed using Statistical Package for Science Social ( SPSS) software version 17.0 to obtain the descriptive statistics, principal component analysis and hierarchical cluster analysis. The findings of hybrid art practice showed that subject matter, exploration and research are the important items to make an art piece while future of hybrid art stated art magazine and commercialization are the important elements to develop hybrid arU The findings of this study yielded a model ofhybrid art practice that portrays the complexities in creating an art piece and analyses the phenomenon of hybrid art model when the art work has a traditional or technological tendency. The findings also revealed the positive and negative interaction between traditional and technological elements offillure art practice while innovation strategy, media enhancement, preservation and education are the factors to evolve hybrid art in order for sllstainability in the local art scene.
